The Region of Western Greece is showcasing remarkable tourism growth, reinforcing its role as a vital engine of regional development and economic resilience, according to Deputy Minister of Tourism Anna Karamanli.
Speaking at the 13th Regional Growth Conference in Patras, Karamanli highlighted that tourism remains “a cornerstone for boosting regional economies and empowering local communities across Greece”. She highlighted tourism’s capacity to leverage each region’s unique strengths, fostering a resilient and sustainable development model.
Focusing on Western Greece, Karamanli shared promising data of 2024: inbound travel rose by 10.8 percent, overnight stays increased 7 percent, and tourism revenues surged 21.7 percent, surpassing 605 million euros.
“Tourism delivers immediate and substantial benefits when supported by targeted investments, coordinated policies, and strong local initiatives,” Karamanli noted.

She outlined the ministry’s commitment to sustainable tourism growth through the modernization of infrastructure, enhancement of service quality, investment in tourism education, and diversification of offerings – especially those emphasizing local culture and identity.
To ensure tailored regional strategies, the ministry established the Regional Tourism Council, promoting collaboration between national authorities and regional stakeholders to drive cohesive tourism policies, Karamanli informed.
The deputy minister also highlighted support for domestic tourism, citing that Western Greece redeemed 785,000 euros in digital tourism vouchers under the “Tourism for All” program in 2024, with Kalavryta and Patras as leading destinations.
“Tourism can be a powerful driver of growth for all parts of Greece,” Karamanli said. “Success hinges on strategic planning, lasting partnerships at every level, and ongoing investment in quality.”
