University of Birmingham Postgraduate Access Scholarships 2025 (UK) | £4,000 Funding

The University of Birmingham has launched the Postgraduate Access Scholarships 2025 to support students from underrepresented backgrounds in pursuing a Master’s degree. A total of 50 scholarships, each worth £4,000, are available for the 2025/26 academic year.

These scholarships aim to eliminate financial and structural obstacles that prevent capable individuals from continuing their education. In addition to tuition support, recipients will receive academic mentoring, career guidance, and peer networking opportunities.

Degree Level

Available for students enrolling in a Master’s (taught) program, either full-time (1 year) or part-time (up to 2+ years).

All subject areas offered at the University of Birmingham are eligible.

Who Can Apply?

Only UK-domiciled students are eligible.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be classified as having Home fee status

  • Begin a 180-credit taught postgraduate course in the 2025/26 academic year

  • Study full-time or part-time

  • Belong to at least one under-represented group

Under-Represented Groups

To qualify, applicants must meet at least one of the following:

  • Participation in a Widening Participation Scheme (at Birmingham or another UK university)

  • Care leaver (spent at least 3 months in local authority care)

  • Have a disability (receiving DSA, DLA, or PIP)

  • From a Black or ethnic minority background

  • Estranged or bereaved of both parents (under the age of 25)

  • Responsible for caring for a dependent friend or family member

  • From a household with an income below £42,875

Note: Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection. Scholarships are competitive and based on merit. Applicants may be asked to provide evidence of their eligibility.
