Sky Express revealed its new destinations in the night sky with a dazzling drone show.

Greek carrier SKY express is accelerating its international expansion in 2025 with the addition of five new European destinations and two new Airbus A320neo aircraft, reinforcing its strategic focus on growth and connectivity.

During a high-profile presentation at the Olympic Museum in Athens on June 24 — accompanied by a drone show — the airline’s management unveiled plans to launch new routes to Madrid, Lisbon, Hamburg, Berlin, and Lyon.

With these additions, SKY express, operated under the IOGR Group owned by Cretan entrepreneur Yiannis Grylos, will serve 26 international and 33 domestic destinations in 2025.

“Our international expansion remains the cornerstone of our strategy,” said SKY express Chief Commercial Officer Gerasimos Skaltsas. “We continue to grow dynamically abroad, strengthening our position across key European markets.”

Two new Airbus A320neo aircraft

To support the expanded flight schedule, Skaltsas said SKY express will add two new Airbus A320neo aircraft to its fleet this summer – one by the end of this week and another by season’s end. These are the final deliveries from the airline’s most recent order. The SKY express fleet will total 29 Airbus and ATR aircraft.

The company has already increased available seats by 10 percent on its domestic network compared to 2024 and by 40 percent internationally, with capacity growth concentrated on routes to Crete, Frankfurt, Warsaw, and Düsseldorf.

According to Skaltsas, SKY express closed 2024 having transported more than 5 million passengers and added seven international routes, while also incorporating six new aircraft – two Airbus A320neo and four ATR 72-600 – into its operations. The airline now operates what it calls “the most modern fleet in Greece”.

Expectations for 2025

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the event, IOGR Group Founder & President Yiannis Grylos said SKY express expects to carry 5.5 million passengers this year, with domestic seat capacity projected to rise by 5 to 6 percent.

“This reflects the company’s continuous growth and reinforces its international presence,” Grylos said.

According to data from Athens International Airport (AIA), in the first five months of the year, SKY express recorded a 4 percent increase in domestic traffic and a 31 percent increase on its international network.

Speaking on the airline’s course, AIA Director of Communication and Marketing Ioanna Papadopoulou noted that SKY express currently holds a 13.7 percent market share for January–May 2025.

“International traffic now accounts for 35 percent of the airline’s total activity,” she said. “This strong balance between leisure, business, and VFR travel is a healthy foundation for continued growth.”

She also highlighted SKY express’s rising strategic importance at Athens Airport, where the carrier has grown from a 2.5 percent market share in 2019 to 12 percent today.

“SKY express is now our second-largest airline,” she said. “Its growth reflects its role in strengthening the airport’s connectivity with key foreign markets.”
