Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Nationality: Must be a non-Chinese citizen with a valid foreign passport.

Health: Applicants must be in good physical and mental health.

Academic Qualification: Must hold a Master’s degree or be in the final year of their Master’s program. An expected graduation certificate can be submitted, but the official degree must be provided before enrollment.

Age Limit: Must be under 40 years old at the time of application.

Language Proficiency:

  • For Chinese-taught programs: HSK 4 (minimum 180) for Science & Engineering; HSK 5 (minimum 180) for Liberal Arts, Medicine, and Arts.
  • For English-taught programs: TOEFL, IELTS, or equivalent proof of English proficiency.
  • Native English or Chinese speakers may be exempted from language certification.

Step-by-Step Application Process:

  1. Find a Supervisor: Contact potential PhD supervisors at SZU and request a Letter of Recommendation.
  2. Register Online: Complete your application via the SZU Online Application Portal.
  3. Submit Required Documents: Upload the following documents:
    • Master’s Degree Certificate (or pre-graduation certificate for final-year students).
    • Official transcripts of all postgraduate coursework.
    • Two Letters of Recommendation from professors or associate professors.
    • Personal Statement (1500 words) detailing intended research area, supervisor choice, academic achievements, and career goals.
    • Copy of Passport and Passport Photo.
    • Letter of Recommendation from Potential Supervisor.

Selection & Admission Process
