The Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) has recently completed a series of infrastructure upgrades designed to enhance safety, comfort, and traffic flow ahead of the expected Easter holiday surge.
To enhance passenger mobility within the port, the upgrades include renovated terminal buildings, expanded shaded waiting areas, additional seating, and more greenery. In addition, more than 1,700 safety bollards, along with new warning signs and lifebuoys, have been installed throughout the port complex to ensure passenger safety.
“These initiatives from part of the company’s broader strategic plan and align with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, reflecting a shared commitment to creating a modern, secure and efficient port,” PPA management said in statement.
Earlier this month, Maritime Minister Vassilis Kikilias met with China’s Ambassador to Greece Fang Qiu to discuss investments in key infrastructure upgrades, including additional passenger stations and shelters, enhanced security features, and improved water supply systems.
As part of this initiative, structural improvements were implemented at key quays and access points to accommodate increased passenger traffic:
– Restoration of high-traffic areas, including Tzelepi Coast
– Upgrade of the Karaiskaki underground parking facility with improved lighting, smart infrastructure systems, and automated technologies
– Refreshed ground markings, coordinated with the Hellenic Coast Guard, to optimize pedestrian and vehicle flow
– Αddition of a second ambulance at the central passenger port
– Deployment of extra patrol staff and vehicles to strengthen safety measures during the holiday period.
Electric vehicle charging stations are also scheduled to be installed in the near future. According to the port authority, the goal is to continuously improve the experience for the thousands of passengers who pass through the port, particularly during peak travel periods.
“The company’s management reaffirmed its commitment to continued strategic investment in service improvements, reinforcing the Piraeus port’s position as a high-value hub for coastal shipping and tourism,” the statement further noted.
