Eligibility Criteria
Who Can Apply?
Applicants from around the world are encouraged to apply. You must:
- Hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, natural sciences, engineering, or a related field
- Meet the doctoral admission requirements of the supervising NHR Center
- Demonstrate English language proficiency
- Be committed to a research career in HPC or computational science
Application Procedure
Application Deadline and Timeline
- Application Deadline: September 15, 2025
- Funding Start Date: April 1, 2026
- Funding End Date: March 31, 2029
Important: Even if your fellowship starts later than April, funding ends on March 31, 2029.
Required Application Documents
Prepare the following documents (1–6) as a single PDF (max. 10 MB):
- Application Form – Complete via the online portal.
- Letter of Motivation – 1–2 pages explaining your goals, interest in HPC, and future aspirations
- Curriculum Vitae – Max. 2 pages
- Research Statement – 1–2 pages outlining your proposed PhD research and preferred NHR center(s)
- Academic Transcripts – With English or German translation if needed
- Proof of English Proficiency – TOEFL iBT (min. 79), IELTS (min. 6.5), or equivalent
