The Czech government has announced that Taiwanese nationals are no longer required to obtain a work permit to work in the country. These changes make Taiwan the tenth country on this list, which includes Australia, Japan, Canada, South Korea, New Zealand, Britain, the USA, Israel and Singapore
As the authorities have explained, the new measures that lift the requirement for Taiwanese to obtain a work permit or employment card to work in the country will enter into force in the upcoming months, Schengen.News reports.
By waiving the obligation to secure a work permit for foreign job seekers from Taiwan, the administrative burden on their employers will be reduced and these foreigners will enter the labor market more quickly… When selecting (countries), the main consideration was that the Czech Republic has a priority in supporting the recruitment and employment of highly qualified workers.
The decision is a result of national efforts to facilitate the arrival of more foreign experts and workers to help the Czech labour market. As the data from the Ministry of Labour reveals, 80 men and 105 women from Taiwan were employed in the Czech Republic last year.
New Measures to Facilitate Employment of Foreigners in Czechia
The regulation was approved by the Czech government recently after a previous attempt was recorded last year. However, last year, Czechia did not recognise Taiwan as an independent state but now it can be considered as an independent jurisdiction.
In the documents accompanying last year’s first regulation was stated that the measure would make it easier for foreign workers to work in Czechia, especially for those who earn above-average salaries.
The office had mentioned at the time that people from the ten countries, including Taiwan, do not reside or work illegally in the Czech Republic, nor do they apply for asylum here.
As per short-term visas, the Schengen states received 1,255 applications filed by applicants from Taiwan. According to the statistics published by SchengenVisaInfo, nearly 93 per cent of visa applications were approved compared to 59 or 4.7 per cent that were refused.
Countries that received the most applications from Taiwan were France and Germany, with 359 and 279 applications being submitted to the consulates of these two countries. Czechia, on the other hand, received 59 applications.
