Let’s Be S.M.A.R.T. Launches Holiday Pet Adoption Program Near Athens

A Greek animal rescue charity near Athens International Airport is encouraging tourists to take a furry companion home this summer through a new adoption initiative that blends travel with compassion.

Let’s Be S.M.A.R.T. — a non-profit dedicated to the welfare of stray animals — has launched an innovative “Adoption-Vacation” program.

The initiative invites visitors to meet and adopt rescue cats and dogs during their stay in Greece, offering a unique and meaningful way to make a difference while on holiday.

Located in Attica, just outside the capital, the charity’s sanctuary currently cares for over 100 cats and several dogs, all seeking permanent, loving homes.

The adoption program is open to international travelers and includes support to help new pet parents navigate the process of bringing an animal back home.

In addition to its rescue and rehoming work, Let’s Be S.M.A.R.T. runs educational initiatives promoting responsible pet ownership and ethical adoption.

The organization also collaborates with global partners to place animals with families abroad.

The charity’s mission is not only to reduce the number of stray animals in Greece but also to build a more compassionate culture through awareness and action.

The program’s founder, Julie Kelley, has been at the heart of these efforts, inspiring a growing community of volunteers and adopters from around the world.
