Foreign tourist arrivals in Greece are expected to increase by 16,2 percent in the first months of 2025 compared to 2024, according to data from the Airdata tracker of INSETE, the research institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE).
Based on the data, the planned total seat capacity airlines to Greece expect to offer on inbound international flights for September right now exceeds five million (5,664,504) with key markets being Germany, the UK, the US, France, Italy, and the Netherlands.
Notably, March features a rise of 14,5 percent from 2024 adding more than 157,000 seats for the first month of spring, bringing total capacity at all Greek airports to 1.24 million.
In 2025, planned seat capacity reached 1,04 million in January and exceeded 984,000 in February, marking year-on-year increases of 16,5 and 17.7 percent, respectively. Germany in the main market for Greece with 175,794 passengers, followed by the UK with 111,517, Italy (113,813), Turkiye (100,008), and Cyprus (75,086).
Greek airports performance in March 2025
According to INSETE’s Airdata tracker, Athens and Thessaloniki are set to welcome the highest number of passengers. Athens International Airport recorded a 3.7 percent increase in expected arrivals, reaching 1.02 million in March compared to the same month last year. Its main markets saw notable growth, with Germany up by 5,5 percent, Italy by 20,6 percent, and the UK by 9,9 percent.
Similarly, Thessaloniki Airport has 188,552 scheduled seats for March, marking a 4,4 percent increase, primarily serving travelers from Germany, Cyprus, and Italy.
Among Greece’s regional airports, Heraklion showed a decline of 11,6 percent with 14,333 scheduled seats, followed by Rhodes with 4,608 seats (up 7,8 percent) and Chania with 4,209 seats (a decline of 7,7 percent), Corfu (3,257), Kalamata (2,790), and Santorini (1,666).
