Greek ports started 2025 with a notable increase in international passenger traffic, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
More specifically, the number of passengers traveling to and from international destinations rose 8.3 percent in the first three months of the year, reaching 181,909, compared to 167,912 in the same period of 2024.
Both disembarkations and embarkations contributed to this growth, increasing by 9.9 percent and 6.8 percent respectively, highlighting Greece’s continued appeal as a global travel destination.
In contrast, domestic passenger traffic experienced a slight decline, dropping 1.5 percent compared to 2024. This slowdown reflects a modest reduction in internal travel, with total domestic passengers accounting for the majority of the overall traffic decrease.
Overall passenger traffic at Greek ports fell 1.1 percent, totaling 4.77 million passengers in the first three months of 2025, down from 4.84 million the previous year. The combination of strong international flows and weaker domestic demand created a mixed start to the year.
On the cargo side, Greek ports recorded positive results. Total cargo traffic increased by 1.4 percent, while roll-on/roll-off vehicle units grew by 3 percent, demonstrating steady growth in commercial maritime activity alongside the passenger trends.
