To address the emergency needs caused by ongoing seismic activity in the southern Cyclades, the Ministry of Interior has signed a funding contract worth 850,000 euros for the islands of Santorini, Amorgos, Anafi, and Ios.
The contract, signed between the ministry and the Municipalities of Thira, Anafi, Ios, and Amorgos, provides a grant of 400,000 euros to Santorini and 150,000 euros to each of the other three islands.
“The Ministry of Interior addresses challenges with method and organization, which makes us more optimistic about the future,” Spanakis said.

The islands’ mayors thoroughly informed the minister about the issues that have emerged in recent weeks due to the ongoing tremors, as well as broader concerns, with the minister committing to implement measures that will support the local community.
Santorini, Anafi, and Amorgos are currently under a state of emergency, with safety guidelines issued by local authorities and the Ministries of Maritime and Civil Protection to safeguard residents, visitors, and employees.
The latest data from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens indicate that as of February 15, a total of 20,000 earthquakes have been recorded along the Santorini–Anydros–Amorgos axis, with some exceeding a magnitude of 5.0.
