Greek Airlines Cancel, Reschedule Flights for February 28 Due to General Strike

Greek airlines AEGEAN and SKY express have announced cancellations and rescheduling of flights on February 28, due to the participation of the Hellenic Air Traffic Controllers Union in a 24-hour general strike called by the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY). The strike will take place from 00:01 to 24:00 local time.

This nationwide protest, marking the second anniversary of the tragic railway disaster in Tempi, has been organized by ADEDY, the General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE), and trade union front, PAME.

AEGEAN flight cancellations

AEGEAN Airlines and its subsidiary, Olympic Air, will cancel all domestic and international flights on February 28, except for the following:

– A3909 Larnaca-Athens (Feb 28, 2025) at 23:30
– A3910 Athens-Larnaca (Mar 1, 2025) at 00:00
– A3898 Athens-Yerevan (Mar 1, 2025) at 00:15
– A3930 Athens-Cairo (Mar 1, 2025) at 00:00

Further cancellations and adjustments will also affect flights on February 27 and March 1. AEGEAN will notify affected passengers directly.

To assist impacted travelers, AEGEAN has arranged additional flights and seats before and after February 28. Passengers who were scheduled to travel over the long bank holiday weekend (March 1-3) can reschedule their flights or opt for the following options:

– Free reissuance for flights scheduled until December 31, 2025
– Issuance of a credit voucher.

SKY Express flight cancellations

SKY Express has also announced the cancellation of all scheduled flights on February 28, except for GQ650 (Larnaca-Thessaloniki) and GQ651 (Thessaloniki-Larnaca), which will be rescheduled to a new departure time.

Passengers will be contacted directly by SKY Express. Affected passengers can choose from the following options:

– Free ticket change to any new travel date, valid until December 31, 2025
– Full cancellation and refund
– Cancellation and credit voucher for the ticket amount, valid for 12 months.

Passengers must choose an option by February 28, 2025.

Wider impact of the February 28 strike

The general strike on February 28 will impact various sectors across Greece. In addition to aviation, the railway strike will disrupt all train services across the country, as confirmed by Hellenic Train. The Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) has also announced that ferries will be docked, and taxi drivers will strike from 10am to 1pm.

No official announcements have been made regarding disruptions to other forms of public transportation, including buses, trolleys, trams, metro, and suburban trains.
