Greece has been ranked among Europe’s top wine destinations by TUI Musement, the tours and activities arm of TUI Group, in recognition of its deep-rooted winemaking tradition and growing appeal to wine-focused travelers.
Placing fifth in TUI Musement’s ranking, Greece’s viticulture heritage dates back to the Mycenaean era and is intertwined with the country’s landscape, mythology, and art. Among its most celebrated varieties are Xinomavro, a robust red grown mainly in Peloponnese, and Agiorgitiko from the Peloponnese.
The islands are also key producers: Kefalonia is renowned for its crisp Robola whites, Santorini for Assyrtiko, and Crete for the distinctive Liatiko. Notable wine regions include Macedonia, the Peloponnese, and the Aegean Islands.
The ranking highlights Europe’s leading wine destinations for travelers. France tops the list with Champagne’s UNESCO-listed cellars alongside Burgundy and Bordeaux.
Italy follows as the continent’s largest producer with the highest number of Protected Designations of Origin (PDOs) and Geographical Indications (PGIs).
Spain ranks third with Europe’s largest wine region, while Portugal takes fourth place.
Rounding out the top ten are Germany, Romania, Hungary, Austria, and Bulgaria.
According to TUI Musement, these countries combine rich wine traditions with diverse landscapes, offering travelers distinctive tasting experiences across Europe.
