Marine tourism has been designated a strategic priority by the Greek Tourism Ministry, with a series of targeted actions underway to strengthen the sector and position Greece as a leading destination for sustainable, high-quality sea-based travel.
Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni underlined this approach in a statement issued ahead of the upcoming Olympic Yacht Show 2025 organized by Ondeck Events (ONDECK MEDIA / Skipper Ondeck).
“Greece continues to achieve record results in tourism, reinforcing its position as a globally recognized destination,” Kefalogianni said. ” Our goal is sustainable and quality-driven growth, boosting competitiveness, resilience and respect for local communities and the natural environment.”
According to Kefalogianni, marine tourism, with yachting at its core, is one of the fastest-growing segments, making a substantial contribution to the national economy and showcasing Greece’s comparative advantages.
“It enhances visitor experience, reduces seasonality and creates new opportunities for local development,” she added.

The minister also stressed that at the Tourism Ministry, marine tourism is a strategic priority, noting that the government is already implementing a series of initiatives to upgrade infrastructure and services.
“With targeted actions, legislative initiatives and the use of financing tools, we are working to improve infrastructure and services, strengthen sustainable tourism development and ensure the protection of marine and coastal areas,” she said.
Projects funded through Greece’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) are already underway, including upgrades and extensions of the country’s marina network, enhanced infrastructure for diving tourism and improved beach accessibility.

At the same time, the institutional framework for the planning and operation of tourist ports is being modernized, while new tools for data collection and analysis on marine tourism are being developed.
According to the minister. a landmark initiative is the creation, in partnership with the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), of the Eastern Mediterranean Coastal and Marine Tourism Observatory, which will monitor and measure sustainable development, offering expertise and data to shape long-term strategy.
Within this framework, the Olympic Yacht Show 2025 — taking place October 9–12 at Olympic Marine in Lavrio — serves as a flagship event showcasing the dynamism of Greece’s yachting industry.
