Research Focus: Innovative Toxicology Without Animal Testing
The successful candidate will work on the Neuro-IUGR project: “Humanization of a neurosphere model of intrauterine growth restricted neurodevelopment.” This cutting-edge research aims to create a human neurosphere disease model using induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) to test neuroprotective therapies—all without using animal models.
This PhD position is funded for three years, with work conducted at two top institutions:
- 1.5 years at BfR in Berlin (65% E13 TVöD)
- 1.5 years at TiHo in Hannover (65% TV-L 13 or TV-L 14, depending on experience)
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and characterize 2D and 3D human cell culture models
- Use multi-electrode arrays (MEA) to assess neural activity
- Conduct inter-laboratory reproducibility studies
- Publish research findings and present at conferences
- Contribute to student supervision in laboratory settings

Eligibility Criteria
