Fraport Greece Regional Airports Hit Record 6.8m Passengers in August 2025


Fraport Greece’s 14 regional airports handled around 6.8 million passengers in August, marking a record high compared to previous years, according to the latest data.

More specifically, arrivals totaled 6,786,201 passengers, an increase of 4 percent compared to 2024, when they stood at 6,525,402.

Rhodes recorded the largest surge, with 1,324,730 arrivals—up 4.8 percent compared to 2024. Corfu (Kerkyra) followed with 976,245 passengers, up by 5.3 percent, while Thessaloniki welcomed 910,204 travelers, a rise of 9 percent, underscoring its growing appeal as a summer destination.

In contrast, arrivals at Santorini dropped by 9.4 percent, extending the downward trend highlighted by INSETE.

Kavala, Aktion, and Chania also reported significant increases in passengers, rising by 11.2 percent, 9.9 percent, and 6.7 percent respectively.

January-August performance

From January through August, total passenger traffic at the 14 airports reached 26.306.289 million, up 2.6 percent compared to the same period in 2024. International traffic grew 3.7 percent, while domestic volumes dropped 0.2 percent.

Thessaloniki saw the biggest rise in arrivals with 7.6 percent increase to 5.279.906, followed by Kavala (7.1 percent) and Skiathos (6.6 percent). In contrast, arrivals to Santorini and Mykonos dropped by 16 percent and 0.9 percent, showing a twist to alternative Greek destinations. Samos also saw a slight drop by 0.8 percet.

Top five markets

Passengers from the UK led the way with 1,408,682 arrivals in Greece this August. Germany followed with 881,218, while Italy, Poland, and the Netherlands completed the top five.

Domestic travelers also ranked among the leading markets for Fraport Greece’s airports, with 915,967 Greeks flying within the country.
