Corfu is intensifying its efforts to enhance its presence in the Azerbaijani market, with the goal of attracting more visitors from Azerbaijan.
As part of this initiative, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism of Central Corfu Spiros Chalikiopoulos met with Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Greece Arif Mammadov to explore ways to strengthen bilateral relations. The discussion focused on tourism, education, and trade as key areas of strategic collaboration aimed at fostering mutually beneficial ties.
Ambassador Mammadov emphasized that Corfu’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty make it one of the most appealing tourism destinations, not only in Greece but also across Europe. He noted that, among other Greek destinations, Corfu holds a prominent position in Azerbaijan’s agenda for enhancing tourism cooperation.
Building on this positive momentum, Chalikiopoulos presented Corfu’s tourism offerings to the ambassador, highlighting the significant investments made in recent years in the island’s hotel infrastructure.
Both sides agreed on the importance of expanding cooperation to further strengthen bilateral relations in the tourism sector.

Memorandum of Cooperation with the Ionian University
During his visit to Corfu, Ambassador Mammadov also met with officials from the Ionian University to discuss the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), aimed at promoting educational and cultural exchanges between the two nations.
This initiative is expected to enhance ties in education and research, opening up new opportunities for collaboration between Azerbaijan and Greece.
