Building on the positive momentum of the first half of 2025, Athens International Airport (AIA) continues to serve as a key gateway for visitors traveling to destinations across Greece, with travel activity rising again in July.
According to the latest airport data, passenger traffic increased by 4.1 percent during the month, reaching 3,799,919 passengers compared to 3,606,854 in July 2024. Of that total, international travelers rose by 5.4 percent to 2,653,227, while domestic traffic increased by 1.2 percent to 1,102,692, up from 1,090,000 last year.
These figures bring total passenger traffic from January to July to 18,831,200—marking a 6.9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024, when the airport handled 17,620,162 passengers.
Flight activity on the rise
Flight activity at the airport also increased by 6.2 percent in July 2025, reaching 159,665 flights, up from 150,350 in July 2024. Of these, 97,025 were international flights and 62,640 domestic, reflecting year-on-year increases of 9.7 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively.
Tourism revenues
According to the Bank of Greece, tourism revenues also posted strong gains. From January to May 2025, receipts reached 4.35 billion euros—up 12.7 percent year-on-year. Earnings from EU residents rose by 10.9 percent to 2.33 billion euros, while non-EU markets generated 1.81 billion euros, marking a 15.1 percent increase.
Top-performing markets included Germany, the UK, and the US. In contrast, revenues from France and Italy declined by 7.8 percent and 4.8 percent, totaling 264 million and 165 million euros, respectively.
