Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport (AIA) continued its positive momentum in February, confirming sustained demand for both leisure and business travel even ahead of the peak tourism season.
In January 2025, AIA welcomed 1.83 million passengers, marking a 14.5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. This positive trend persisted in February, with the airport handling 1.75 million passengers, up 8.9 percent year-on-year. Both domestic and international traffic increased by 2.3 percent and 11.9 percent, respectively.
Cumulatively, during the first two months of 2025, passenger traffic reached 3.59 million, reflecting an 11.7 percent increase. Growth was recorded across both domestic (+3.6 percent) and international (+15.3 percent) segments.
The consistent growth aligns with AIA’s strategy to extend travel demand throughout the year. In 2024, the airport’s most significant traffic increases occurred outside the peak summer months, underscoring efforts to establish Athens as a year-round destination.
Flight activity also saw positive momentum. During January and February 2025, total flight movements at AIA reached 31,832, an 8.2 percent increase over 2024 levels. While domestic flights experienced a slight dip (-2.1 percent), international flight movements rose by 15.6 percent.
Athens Airport set a new record in 2024, serving 31.8 million passengers — a 13.1 percent increase over 2023. This growth outpaced the European average, which ranged between 7.4 and 8.2 percent for airports serving over 25 million passengers annually.
