April 9 Strike in Greece to Impact Public Transport, Ferries and Air Travel

Transportation and travel across Greece will face disruptions on Wednesday, April 9, as public transport, ferry and aviation workers join a nationwide strike called by Greek labor unions.

The General Confederation of Greek Labor (GSEE) and the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) announced the strike to protest inflation, the housing crisis, stagnant wages, and to demand the reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salaries in the public sector, calling on the Greek government to address these issues.

According to announcements on Wednesday:

– Athens’ metro lines 2 and 3, the electric railway ISAP (line 1) and tram will operate only between 10am – 5pm

– OASA buses and ILPAP trolley-buses will operate only between 9am and 21.00pm

– No trains will operate for 24 hours on the suburban railway (Proastiakos) or by national railway operator OSE.

Air travel: Flights cancelled

Greece’s air traffic controllers union will participate in the 24-hour strike.

Following the announcement, AEGEAN, Olympic Air and SKY express announced cancellations and rescheduling of flights.

Travelers to Greece are advised to check with their respective airlines for updates on flight cancellations and alternative arrangements.
