Collingwood made an emphatic statement, with a dominant four-quarter performance, as they put away reigning Premiers Brisbane on their home deck. They got off to a flyer and never looked back, going on to lead for the whole evening, whilst managing to keep the Lions to their lowest inside 50 tally since 2017.

Jamie Elliott (pictured above) marked his landmark 200th appearance for the club with two goals – it has certainly been a roller-coaster of a career for the 32-year-old forward who missed the whole of the 2016 and 2018 seasons through back, ankle and hamstring injuries.
Last year, he suffered a rare vascular issue which could have seen him lose his toes, putting his whole career in doubt, but, to his credit, he managed to get through it.
Easter Monday Blockbuster
Two of the clubs expected to be there come the pointy end clashed in the Easter Monday Blockbuster, where Geelong got over the line against Hawthorn in a thriller.
A crowd of 88,746 at the MCG witnessed a beauty in which both sides enjoyed momentum swings, leading to the scores being level midway through the fourth.

However, with just a few minutes remaining, a defensive mistake by the Hawks was seized upon, and eventually, Irishman Shaun Mannagh (pictured above) put it through to seal the win.
Conor Nash looks set to face the tribunal this week after being reported for striking Gryan Miers with a swinging arm that left the Cats forward concussed on the ground.
Dimma’s unhappy return to Marvel
No doubting the big shock of this long weekend, where Richmond pulled off a result that no one saw coming as they held on to end Gold Coast’s unbeaten run.
This victory finally ended an eleven-match losing streak at Marvel Stadium, which dated back to 2021. Unfortunately, though, it happened in front of an attendance of just 18,423, which made it the Tigers’ lowest attendance at this venue since 2003.

Defender Nick Vlastuin (pictured above) celebrated his 31st birthday with a best-on-ground effort and did a superb job in the back line by nullifying the threat of Suns’ Ben King.
The ‘Bont’ stars upon his return
Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli made his long-awaited return to the starting line-up and led his troops to overwhelm a disappointing St.Kilda completely.
The six-time All-Australian (pictured below) looked sharp from the get-go, and it’s a huge boost for the Bulldogs that will be hoping this helps kick-start their 2025 campaign.

Unfortunately, it did come at a bit of a cost, though, with forward Sam Darcy, who has taken the game by storm, having to be substituted off. He landed awkwardly inthe opening term with what, at the time, looked like a suspected left knee ACL rupture.
Whilst he is still going to face some time out on the sidelines, thankfully, scans have allayed fears with Chris Bell, Head of Sports Medicine at the club, confirming that he had suffered “an impaction fracture with associated ligament damage.”
Unsavoury incident mars Port victory
Port Adelaide went some way to avenging last season’s Preliminary Final defeat, with a strong showing, by getting the job done against Sydney at the SCG.
They also had to do it in the second half without their Brownlow medallist Ollie Wines (pictured below) as he had to be withdrawn, at the main break, after experiencing heart palpitations.

Speaking to Channel 7, at the end of the third, the club’s football boss Chris Davies said, “Ollie had a bit of a heart flutter, he’s in the rooms now, feeling far better”.
In a rather unsavoury incident that nobody wants to see at the footy, a 16-year-old Swans fan has been given a two-year ban after throwing an object onto the oval.
Demons finally on the winners board
Melbourne, firmly under the media spotlight for their poor start, finally had something to cheer about by collecting their first success of the season over Fremantle.
Kysaiah Pickett (pictured below) was the star of the show, booting five majors, as the Demons got off to a fast start and had already put up their highest score of the year by halftime.

For the Dockers, a result that has attracted a lot of attention about their form outside of WA and whether they are contenders, coach Justin Longmuir admitted, in his presser, that he “didn’t think we were tough enough, didn’t value the right things.”
Good Friday SuperClash
In the traditional Good Friday SuperClash, Carlton booted their biggest score in 2025 to date as they put North Melbourne to the sword before a complete sell-out.
Small forward Zac Williams snagged a career-high four majors and was amongst 12 different goalkickers for the Blues that ran riot during a very one-sided second half.

George Hewett (pictured above) was awarded the inaugural SuperClash Superhero Medal for a best-on-ground display that included 34 disposals, 12 clearances and nine tackles.
Crows grind it out in challenging conditions
Adelaide managed to come out on top against Greater Western Sydney in a low-scoring encounter played in extremely challenging, windy, and rainy conditions.
These certainly hampered any chance of free-flowing football, leading to a lot of skill errors and fumbles, but credit to both sets of players for their effort and endeavour.
Neither side could kick accurately in front of the big sticks, with the Giants managing a total of just 34 points, which represented their lowest in a match since 2022.
Bombers survive huge scare
Over in WA, Essendon survived a huge scare before eventually managing to fall over the line against bottom-side outfit West Coast by just a two-point margin.
Desperate to make amends for a shocker the previous week, the home side were in a determined mood with a much better showing and were ahead at the main interval.

However, led by ‘Two Metre’ Peter Wright (pictured above), who kicked a bag of six upon his return to the side from an ankle ligament strain, the Bombers were able to get ahead on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter, and from there ground out the victory.
