Greece’s growing reputation as a premier destination for In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedures was a key focus at the 4th Scientific Symposium on Assisted Reproduction in Athens.
Speaking at the Megaron – The Athens Concert Hall before an audience of leading scientists and professionals, Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni highlighted the country’s strategic efforts to expand its medical tourism sector.
During her speech, Kefalogianni underscored Greece’s pioneering role in IVF legislation. She noted that Greece established a progressive legal framework for IVF as early as 2002, followed by the creation of the Greek National Authority of Assisted Reproduction in 2005 — key steps that laid the foundation for the country’s leadership in the field.

Highlighting Greece’s strengths as a medical tourism hub, Kefalogianni pointed to the country’s liberal institutional framework, advanced medical infrastructure, and, most importantly, its highly skilled medical professionals.
“Today, Greece combines these advantages to offer one of the most attractive destinations for women and couples from Europe and beyond seeking parenthood,” the minister said.
Drawing from her own IVF journey, Kefalogianni praised Greek doctors for their expertise and compassionate care, emphasizing their role in providing not only medical treatment but also hope to aspiring parents. She expressed her deep gratitude to the scientists and healthcare professionals advancing IVF treatments.

The minister also stressed the importance of collaboration between scientists, public institutions, and healthcare providers to maintain Greece’s high standards in medical services. She reaffirmed the country’s commitment to strengthening its position as a global leader in both IVF treatments and medical tourism.
Entitled “IVF 47 Years Later”, the 4th Scientific Symposium on Assisted Reproduction took place in Athens from March 6 to 8, 2025. The event was organized by the scientific nonprofit organization Conception of Life in cooperation with the Institute of Life and IASO Maternity Hospital, part of the IASO General Hospital Group.
