Realistically, no one foresaw a Manchester United draw at the half of this one. Everton simply looked like a far more competent Premier League side. And more importantly, Ruben Amorim’s players lacked anything resembling inspiration or passion. However, a 2-0 lead for the hosts quickly evaporated, and both teams left with a point.
Over three-quarters of the match saw the visitors looking more like a team that deserved to be relegated. But the final, smaller portion of the 90 minutes earned something of a minor ‘Fergie Time’ shout. But it’s anyone’s guess as to how the side will look in Matchday 27.

Good teams score during the natural flow of the game. However, these are two of the lower-scoring teams of the season. Neither would be accused of being good in the attack.
Three of the four goals occurred from a dead-ball situation. On the one hand, there were some incredible finishes. But for the visitors, that one that broke the deadlock just can’t happen under any circumstances. Beto did well to be in the right place. Granted, he also struck the ball well.
Regardless, corners have proven to be a constant pressure point for ManU. And the shocking inability to clear the ball once again directly led to a gifted converted opportunity. Some may choose to play hypotheticals of ‘what if’ Amorim’s players simply didn’t give up such easy chances. Unfortunately for those voices, until the team has to prove otherwise. They do not warrant any benefit of the doubt.
On the positive side, the two goals were beauties. What’s more, the Achilles heel proved to be the saving matchday grace. The strikes from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte saw the Manchester United draw through.
Potentially Deceiving Manchester United Draw
There is zero doubt. The captain’s free-kick served as the clear line of demarcation on the day. From then onward, the Red Devils controlled a lot of the possession. And outside of a late Ashley Young dive, they looked the more likely to earn the win.
Chido Obi-Martin offered something off the bench. The youngster didn’t necessarily do anything spectacular. However, his presence seemed to provide a stabilizing force for the attack. And what’s more, the link-up play proved to give Everton fits.
Players must earn increased playing time. But the 17-year-old is certainly positioning himself to at least get another similar run in the near future. Amorim arrived from Sporting mid-season. He fully understood the risks. But he may have unlocked something of a hidden gem for future matchdays. The Joshua Zirkzee and Obi pairing proved successful enough at Goodison. Premier League onlookers could see the duo again against Ipswich Town.
Today’s result would usually be acceptable during a more regular season for a historically considered top club. Unfortunately for United, it’s been so much of a struggle that they are flirting legitimately close to relegation talks. The club benefits very little from managing one point after being down two at this point.
Their next opponent is a must-win scenario, regardless of what happens during the course of the match itself. Fans of the club will hope to see more of the final 15 minutes from the Manchester United draw against Everton. But everyone knowing this and seeing it translate on the Premier League pitch is looking more and more likely as two impossibly different things.
