The Hellenic Ports Association (ELIME) and the Greek Maritime Ministry are stepping up efforts to modernize Greece’s port infrastructure and enhance its investment appeal.
During its annual meeting in Thessaloniki, ELIME officials met with Evangelos Kyriazopoulos, the ministry’s Secretary General for Maritime and Shipping, to discuss strategies for advancing the country’s maritime sector.
Stakeholders highlighted three priorities shaping Greece’s port development: implementing the Entry-Exit system to ensure safety, expanding infrastructure and investment opportunities, and addressing ongoing operational challenges.
Thessaloniki, in particular, was identified as a key hub in the revival of the domestic maritime industry.

European Commission backs Greece’s maritime transformation
In parallel, ELIME’s Board of Directors met with European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas to strengthen cooperation and explore opportunities for European funding.
Discussions focused on the current state of Greek ports, potential financing through new EU programs, and the benefits of integrating port operations with rail and road networks to drive trade and economic growth.
