Galatasaray Interested in Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City are reportedly prepared to let Ilkay Gundogan leave this summer amid interest from Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray.

With the summer transfer window now open, they have roped in Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, Rayan Alt-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ryan Cherki from Lyon and Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea.

The Citizens are looking to bolster their squad as they seek to bounce back following an underwhelming 2024/2025 season, where they failed to win a major title.

Right now, all the attention is on Ilkay Gundogan, who is reportedly set to leave the club amid interest from Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray.

The 34-year-old joined Manchester City from Barcelona last year, and he has made over 51 appearances for the club, including a substitute appearance in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Wydad AC in the Club World Cup.

As the German seems focused on the Club World Cup, there is uncertainty over his future, and a move away from the Citizens could materialise in this transfer window.

According to a report via Sports Mole, Galatasaray are keen on bringing the experienced midfielder to Turkey.

Why is a move away from the Citizens on the table for Gundogan?

Manchester City have solid players among its ranks who can handle proceedings well in the middle of the park.

With the availability of more players in the midfield, the possibility of Gundogan getting an ample amount of playing time isn’t significant.

Given his experience, Pep would still prefer the new signings, Tijjani Reijnders, Ryan Cherki, and the other regulars who would be vying for more playing time, such as Nuno Mendes, Mateo Kovacic, and Nico Gonsalves.

Gundogan had signed a one-year contract with City when he joined; however, an extension of one more year was activated by the end of last season.

A move to Galatasaray, not on a free transfer, is on the cards for Gundogan, and it could materialise very soon. However, it will be interesting to note the kind of offer the Turkish club puts on the table for the player.
