Hokkaido University’s Graduate School of Life Science is now inviting applications for the IGP-MEXT Scholarship 2025 under its prestigious Life Science Researcher Training Program for Solving Global Issues. This highly competitive and fully funded scholarship is supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan, and is designed for outstanding international students pursuing Master’s or PhD programs in Life Sciences.

Available Subjects
This special International Graduate Program (IGP) aims to develop global leaders in life sciences by offering a comprehensive curriculum entirely in English. The program enhances students’ research capabilities through:
- Intensive supervision and training
- Participation in international conferences
- Research proposal writing
- Journal publications
- Cross-cultural academic exchange
The ultimate goal is to nurture scientists who can drive global solutions in biotechnology, genetics, health sciences, environmental life sciences, and more.

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be an international student applying to Hokkaido University’s Graduate School of Life Science
- Strong academic background in biological or life sciences
- Intention to contribute to global research in solving scientific and humanitarian challenges
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (TOEFL/IELTS scores may be required)
- Must secure a supervising professor at Hokkaido University before applying
Application Procedure
- Search for a lab: Find a relevant research laboratory at this lab list page.
- Contact supervisor: Email your preferred lab professor to discuss research alignment and supervision.
- Secure agreement: If the professor agrees to host you, begin preparing your application documents.
- Prepare documents: Include the official application form, recommendation letter, degree certificate, and other required materials.
- Submit to professor: The supervising professor will forward your application to the IGP administration.
Important Deadline
- All application materials must be submitted by December 10, 2025, via your supervising professor.
