Greece recorded the highest weekly growth in flight activity among Europe’s top 10 countries, with a 6 percent increase in flights during the week of May 19-25, according to data from Eurocontrol.
During that period, Greece operated 1,826 flights, placing it seventh among European nations by flight volume. Compared to the same week last year, flight numbers in Greece rose by 1 percent, while the figure marks a significant 20 percent increase over pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
The surge was driven primarily by increased traffic on routes to and from the UK – mainly operated by TUI Group and Jet2.com – as well as strong domestic flows served by the AEGEAN Group, Eurocontrol noted.
Among the top 10 European countries, Greece is one of five reporting flight volumes above 2019 levels, alongside Türkiye, Poland, Italy, and Spain. The remaining countries in the group recorded figures between 1 percent and 10 percent below pre-pandemic levels.
In the same week, the United Kingdom led Europe with 6,278 flights, up 4 percent from the previous week. Spain followed with 5,748 flights (+3 percent), and Germany ranked third with 5,435 flights, maintaining steady volumes.
Other notable flight volumes and weekly changes include:
– France: 4,735 flights (+4 percent)
– Italy: 4,426 flights (+2 percent)
– Türkiye: 3,478 flights (+3 percent)
– The Netherlands: 1,738 flights (no change)
– Poland: 1,416 flights (+2 percent)
– Norway: 1,410 flights (+3 percent)
Overall, European air traffic totaled 32,917 flights for the week, marking a 4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024, and a 2 percent rise above 2019 figures.
Year-to-date, flight volumes stand at 98 percent of 2019 levels- a 5 percent higher than in 2024, noted .
