The Lakshmi Mittal and Family South Asia Institute at Harvard University is offering the Mittal Institute India Fellowship (MIIF) 2026 — a fully funded opportunity for two early-career researchers to conduct impactful, self-driven research while engaging with Harvard’s academic community remotely.

Eligible Research Areas

Fellows may explore a wide range of disciplines that contribute to India’s public benefit, including:

  • Public Health & Climate Change

  • Education & Gender Studies

  • Political Science, Sociology & Anthropology

  • Law, Philosophy & Linguistics

  • Science, Medicine, History & Visual Arts

Selected fellows will reside in New Delhi and participate in the Institute’s activities, such as:

Fellowship Benefits

  • Monthly Stipend: INR 1,00,000 (gross)

  • Travel Support: Reimbursement for round-trip travel (for non-Delhi residents)

  • Resources: Access to Harvard’s academic networks and research materials

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a PhD awarded between March 1, 2020, and March 31, 2025

  • Be at the postdoctoral career stage

  • Preferably educated at Indian institutions

  • Not currently holding another fellowship

Mentorship & Selection

  • Selected fellows will receive remote mentorship from Harvard faculty.

  • Applicants are encouraged to recommend 2–3 Harvard faculty members who align with their proposed research.
