The application period for the Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) for the 2025–2026 academic year is now open.
Established in 1973 through a historic agreement between Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai, CCSEP is Canada’s longest-standing bilateral scholarship initiative. For over 50 years, it has promoted academic exchange, cultural understanding, and collaboration between Canada and China.
About the Program
The CCSEP provides 4 to 12-month research placements in Canada for eligible Chinese scholars and professionals. These placements are intended for visiting research, not formal university enrollment.
Successful applicants will begin their stay in Canada by February 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be Chinese citizens and meet one of the following criteria:

Full-time, permanent teaching or research staff

Master’s or PhD graduates
-
Senior professionals in non-academic fields such as:

Judges
-
Economists
-
Broadcasters
-
Senior policy experts
-
Candidates should be committed to applying their experience in Canada toward contributing to Chinese society and strengthening Canada–China relations.

The program focuses on Canadian studies, particularly in the social sciences and humanities. Relevant fields include:
