The University of Birmingham has launched an ambitious initiative to make postgraduate education more accessible to students from under-represented backgrounds. For the 2025/26 academic year, 50 scholarships worth £4,000 each will be awarded to eligible students pursuing a full-time or part-time taught Master’s degree.
These Postgraduate Access Scholarships are designed to break down financial and structural barriers that may prevent talented individuals from progressing in higher education. Beyond financial support, scholars will benefit from academic mentorship, career development resources, and a strong network of peer support.
Degree Level
University of Birmingham UK Postgraduate Access Scholarships 2025 is available to undertake Masters level programs at University of Birmingham.

Eligible Nationalities
This scholarship is open to domestic students only.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be domiciled in the UK and classified as Home fee status
- Begin a 180-credit postgraduate taught course in the 2025/26 academic year
- Study either full-time (one year) or part-time (up to two years or more)
- Belong to one or more under-represented groups, as listed below
Under-Represented Student Criteria
To be eligible, you must meet at least one of the following:
- Participation in a Widening Participation Scheme at Birmingham or another UK university
- Care leaver (spent at least 3 months in local authority care)
- Disability (receiving DSA, DLA, or PIP)
- Black and ethnic minority background
- Bereaved of or estranged from both parents, under the age of 25
- Caring responsibilities for a dependent friend or family member
- Household income below £42,875
Meeting eligibility does not guarantee selection, as awards are competitive and based on merit. Successful applicants may be asked to verify their status.

To be considered, applicants must:
- Apply to a Master’s course at the University of Birmingham via the official course finder.
- Submit the Postgraduate Access Scholarship form (available on the scholarship webpage).

- Round 2 Deadline: 31 July 2025 (Final)
Note: If you apply in Round 1 and are unsuccessful, your application will automatically be rolled over to Round 2.
